Therapist

Prior to becoming a mental health professional, Matthew served a distinguished 20-year career in the military that brings a unique blend of resilience, discipline, and compassion to his counseling practice. Matthew’s journey began with the 82nd Airborne Division, where he served his first four years as a combat medic, honing his skills in leadership, crisis management, tactical combat casualty care, and cutting his teeth in the beginning of the war against terror in Afghanistan shortly after the 911 attacks. Fourteen of those years were spent as an Army Special Forces Medical Sergeant (Green Berets), a role embedded with high professional demand and expertise in unconventional warfare and unwavering mental fortitude. Serving in several combat zones and other austere environments, Matthew is no stranger to hardships and challenges, testing the limits of the human resilience.

After retiring from the military and realizing the desperate need for mental health care from his own journey in the military, Matthew transitioned to a new mission—helping others heal emotionally and spiritually, specifically from trauma in both the veteran community and civilian populace. He pursued a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Northern Colorado, where he combined his practical experience with academic rigor to become a counselor. During his time in study, Matthew professionally worked with adjudicated youth in Greeley, Colorado in a structured therapeutic milieu providing supervision and mentorship that enabled personal growth for both offense specific and non offense specific resident youth, working towards therapeutic healing, goals, educational needs, and legal circumstances. Today, Matthew is a dedicated Christian counselor who provides holistic support to individuals and families, integrating faith with evidence-based therapeutic practices and working specifically with men struggling with intimacy disorders and sexual addictions. Evidenced based therapeutic approaches include attachment theory, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), existential concepts, cognitive processing therapy (CPT), trauma informed care, therapeutic crisis intervention (TCI), trained in brain spotting, poly vagal theoretical approach, and emotional focused therapy.

Matthew offers a safe, empathetic space for clients to explore their struggles and find paths to resilience and recovery. His approach is informed by his military background, which provides a deep understanding of trauma, stress, and the complexities of the human experience. Whether working with veterans, first responders, or the civilian populace, Matthew is committed to empowering clients to overcome their challenges and lead fulfilling lives.
